THRIVE Mastermind is made up of small groups of female artists that meet once a month for a year to develop their art practices. At each meeting, members share their artistic achievements and struggles of the month for critique and feedback. Our mission with our exclusive Mastermind is to empower female artists to unlock their greatest potential in their art practices, their businesses and their lives. Making the (art)world a better place one artist at a time.
Today we invite you to get to know one of our THRIVE Mastermind members Kirn and hear about her experiences as a THRIVE Mastermind member below!
Kirn Gill is a landscape artist who paint in acrylics. Her work has recently been featured on the Social and Style Blog and in Ology Magazine. She has an upcoming solo show at Small Ritual Coffee Shop too!
We have enjoyed being part of her journey and are so pleased to have her as a THRIVE Mastermind member for another year!
What inspired you join THRIVE Mastermind? I needed a community of artists badly. This was one aspect that was really lacking in my life even though I am married to an artist! I would share my paintings with friends and family and they would be very supportive. However, I needed more engagement and conversations around the arts…whether that was about colour theory, brush strokes, my social media accounts, shipping, packaging, or how to develop a series. I needed support and resources to really thrive as an artist. I had so many questions and besides google I had no one to ask.
What makes you keep coming back? What keeps me coming back is community, connection and space. It is nice to to come to an adorable studio and sit and talk to Artists about the artist life and all that it entails. Thrive Studios gives me a sense of belonging, where we can share our stories, successes, struggles, and ask questions.
Also encouragement is a big thing. After leaving the monthly meeting I am bubbling with enthusiasm. If something comes up for me the Facebook group is there for support. It is also a great way to keep myself accountable to my goals. There is something to be said about showing up as an artist in the world, versus hiding out in the studio.
What are the top three things you have gained from your THRIVE Mastermind experience? Support, Resources, Accountability.
What was your biggest concern before joining? Did it come true, and if not, what happened instead? A concern about joining the group was if the information would be relevant to me as an artist in the beginning stages of my art career. I realized all of it is relevant, whether it was the contact information of an art critic, tips on writing newsletters, workshops on writing cvs and listening to successful thriving artists share their story.
Who do you think THRIVE Mastermind is for? Any woman that wants to make her dream of being a professional artist an actual reality. it is all about taking action and showing up and doing the work. By joining the group I am making a commitment to myself as an Artist and it is exciting. The group is for for every woman that wants to grow as an artist.
What are you currently working on? I am currently working on developing my landscape series which predominantly focus on seascapes. I am also intermittently exploring abstract florals by playing with impasto styles of painting and sketching flowers.
