THRIVE TALKS is a speakers series that invites successful female artists and women in the arts to share their journeys, successes and advice with other women. Each THRIVE TALK is held in an intimate setting that allows for a unique opportunity to get to know the speaker.
Join us on Wednesday, September 28th from 7pm until 8:30pm to meet artist, Tara Galuska. She will tell us about her personal journey as an artist with a focus on her experience building her social media following on Instagram to 20k plus and what this has meant for her art practice and business. This talk has been designed for artists who understand why it’s worth investing time and energy into using Instagram effectively and strategically but aren’t quite where they want to be with it yet. This is the perfect talk for artists looking to refine their approach to Instagram by sharing their stories and building meaningful connections!
After the talk there will be time to ask questions and mingle until 9pm.
THRIVE Studio asked Tara Galuska a few questions in preparation for her THRIVE TALK...
What are three things that you are going to share with us at THRIVE TALKS?
- People always want to know how I got my awesome followers so you know I am going to share that! Spoiler alert I didn’t buy them but put in quite a lot of work ;).
- It’s not a talk for complete beginners but we will still talk about nuts and bolts things like putting the social into “social” media, hashtags and writing captions!
- I’ll also talk about my journey which involves a lot of doing things even while being bloody afraid.
What is a weird fact about yourself?
Instagram is not the first place online that I have built meaningful connections in my life! The first was meeting my husband on an AOL Canadian Teen Chat! We were both 16 and at the time I was in Australia and he was here in Canada. We met a year and a half later and it’s hard to imagine what my life would be like if we hadn’t both logged on at the same time all those years ago and struck up a conversation.
What is your favourite quote that keeps you motivated or inspired?
“A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for.” John A. Shedd
What was your first job?
I worked at a bakery two days a week after school. It wasn’t an ideal fit because the register was 1000 years old and didn’t do any of the math so I had to do it in my head. Not good, I was always afraid of charging people wrong or giving the wrong change!
What would you love to see more artists doing?
I’d like to see more artists enjoying social media while making it work for them! Yes Instagram is work and I view it as part of my job but the rewards for my art practice and business make it well worth it. Also one of my very favourite parts is the awesome people I am able to connect to on there. It really adds a lot to my day and I'd like to see more artists enjoying it too!
